Fairview & IU Jacobs School of Music Collaborate for Spring Concert
On Monday, April 20, 2015, Fairview students performed two shows for students and families accompanied by Cuarteto Tanguero, a world chamber music group from Bloomington. The group has conducted a master class for the summer string academy, performed with the summer string academy Latin American ensemble, and runs the Tanguero workshop for musicians ages 12-adult at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Ben Bogart of Cuarteto Tanguero explains the motivation for the collaboration stating, "Argentine Tango is a popular music with a well developed string tradition and we believe that exposing young musicians to this and other similar genres can play an important role in inspiring them to continue playing music for the rest of their lives."
The collaboration with the Fairview String program is funded by grants from the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association and the Puffin Foundation West. The April performance included the composition of 3 original tanguitos (little tangos) for young players, training for the instructors and the students on how how to play Argentine Tango, student performances with Cuarteto Tanguero, and even Argentine Tango dance classes for students at Fairview.
MCCSC values the diversity in our schools and community. All students’ experiences and perspectives are assets.
