In Our Community:

• WonderLab is an interactive children’s museum located in downtown Bloomington. It offers a place for children of all ages to “play, experiment, innovate, discover, create, and learn about science.” Every Sunday, they have a different STEM challenge in their upstairs classroom. They also offer many unique learning opportunities and special programs.  For more information, visit their website.
• IU School of Education Saturday Science Quest for Kids is a program for K-8 students to engage in hands on Science/STEM related investigations. The program takes place in the fall and spring over five consecutive Saturday mornings. For more information, visit their website.
• Monroe County Public Library offers several hands on STEM and computer science activities for kids of all ages. For more information, visit their website.
• Crane offers Summer STEM Camps at Westgate Academy.  The camps run from the middle of June into July and are offered to students entering 4th through 12th grade.  Registration is open in the spring.  

Try at Home:

• Novel Engineering: This website offers a list of picture and chapter books with related STEM challenges. Many of the titles are books your student may be familiar with. Students identify the problem in the book and design and create a possible solution.
• Code.org: This website offers free coding lessons featuring a student-paced online program and recommendations for unplugged activities to try with your student. The block based coding activities feel like a game as students follow directions to master challenges involving characters they may know from movies or video games. Many of these lessons are currently being implemented as part of MCCSC’s K-6 computer science curriculum.
