Safety Communications & Family Guidance
Safety Communications & Family Guidance
When a safety event or emergency occurs, here are the communications you can expect and guidance for families.
General Family Guidance
- Our first priority is student and staff safety. In an emergency, our staff are trained to follow all safety procedures to protect everyone’s safety. Staff may not be able to answer phones during this time. We will keep you informed as soon as we are able to do so safely and with accuracy.
-
Our teachers and staff will be caring for your child. In an emergency, our schools will be following their regularly practiced safety plans, and our staff will be caring for your child. Every school makes special preparations to identify and care for students with special needs.
-
Watch official MCCSC communication channels for accurate information and instructions. We will communicate with you directly via email, text message, or phone via ParentSquare. Please know that our initial messages will be brief. After a safety incident has ended, you may receive more information about the incident.
-
You will only receive safety notifications for your child’s school — not all schools.
-
Do not call or come to the school unless instructed to do so. School staff need to focus on student safety, and visitors or phone calls can interfere with emergency response.
-
Communicating with your child: Due to a new Indiana law that requires all public schools to adopt a bell-to-bell wireless communication device policy, student wireless devices will be stored at the school and inaccessible during the school day. While school administrators can authorize student cellular device use for emergency purposes, devices will remain secured until it is safe to distribute them to students.
-
If a reunification is needed, you will receive instructions about where and when to pick up your student. Reunification is the process of safely reunifying students with parents or guardians. We ask for your patience and understanding during the reunification process. Students will only be released to a parent, guardian or approved emergency contact with a valid photo ID to ensure student safety.
-
Please keep your contact information and emergency contact information updated. It is important to keep your contact information updated in Skyward Family Access so we can always reach you via phone, email, and text. Click here for instructions on updating your contact information and emergency contacts. Your emergency contacts will automatically be contacted in an emergency.
