Strong Schools, Strong Community Advisory Council
Strong Schools, Strong Community Advisory Council
Sustaining excellence in our schools, together
The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is launching the Strong Schools, Strong Community Advisory Council — a short-term advisory group bringing together community members, business and civic leaders, teachers, support staff, families, board members, administrators, and students. The council will learn about the challenges and opportunities facing MCCSC and share their perspectives.
Purpose: Community input will help inform the corporation's long-term planning to sustain academic excellence and strengthen schools for the benefit of the entire community for today and many years to come. Discussions will center on the belief that strong schools are a catalyst for student learning, community attractiveness, and economic growth.
What the Advisory Council IS:
- A short-term advisory group
- An opportunity to learn
- A listening and dialogue opportunity
- An opportunity to help shape priorities
- A way for the public to share how MCCSC can best serve our community within our current economic context
What the Advisory Council IS NOT:
- A decision-making or voting body
- A permanent committee or ongoing advisory
- Connected to or an extension of any current or past MCCSC advisory groups or commissions.
- A rubber stamp — the council exists to provide input, not to make or affirm decisions
Format: The group will meet for three sessions: April 15, 29, and May 6, 2026, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Each meeting will include a brief presentation from MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston and her leadership team, followed by small and large group discussion and feedback gathering. Some discussion topics will include student supports, community engagement, academic excellence, workforce alignment, local population and demographic trends, school finance, and state funding pressures.
Eligibility: Application to participate in the council is open to all, including community members, business and civic leaders, teachers, support staff, families, administrators, and students. Individuals must reside within the MCCSC boundaries and commit to attending all 3 sessions.
Application/Participation: Up to 40 participants will be selected to participate via an application process. Applicants will be reviewed to ensure a wide representation across community sectors and perspectives. A community survey option will also be available to allow the public to provide input on the same areas discussed by the council, which will be available April 15-May 6. A summary of the council's discussion topics and perspectives will be posted on this webpage (mccsc.edu/advisory) following the final session.
Application Deadline: March 31. All participants will be notified by April 6.
